21 Apples

The concept of this work hints the relationship between ceramics and 21-century human.

 

The piece includes twenty apples made by unfired china clay and one real apple painted with wall paint. These apples will be displayed in three clear containers, filled with salted water, milk and petrol oil.

Water, milk & petrol represent the evolution of human civilization: at the start, we discovered how to make containers to store water, then we learned how to breed animals and now we almost used up the natural resources(fossil fuel). As time goes by, the unfired apples will slowly melt into the liquid, revealing the real apple. This represents how modern people are gradually realizing the importance of the environmental problem and how we should find another way to exist.
